Supporting responsible and evidence-informed use of AI in education

The Institute of AI in Education (IAIE) is an independent organisation working with schools, educators, and partners to explore how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly, safely, and effectively in education.

Our work focuses on pilot programmes, professional development, and evaluation that help educators understand where AI can support professional practice — and where clear boundaries, safeguards, and professional judgement must remain central.

Our Promise

At the Institute of AI in Education (IAIE), we commit to supporting schools and educators in the safe, responsible, and informed use of artificial intelligence. We promise to work transparently, ethically, and with a focus on evidence and professional judgement, ensuring technology serves teachers and learners rather than creating additional burdens or risks.

Our Vision

We envision an education system where artificial intelligence is used thoughtfully, equitably, and effectively — enhancing professional practice and learner outcomes while safeguarding the rights, wellbeing, and autonomy of all members of the school community.

Our Mission

IAIE’s mission is to support the responsible, ethical, and evidence-informed use of artificial intelligence in education, helping educators and organisations make well-judged decisions that protect learners, uphold professional standards, and serve the public interest.

How We Work

IAIE’s work is guided by national policy, professional standards, and the realities of educational practice. We take a careful, evidence-informed approach to the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education, ensuring that innovation supports — rather than undermines — teaching, learning, and trust.

Practitioner-Led Engagement

We work with practising teachers and school leaders at every stage — from co-design to delivery and evaluation — ensuring relevance and practicality.

Evidence-Informed Delivery

Interventions are grounded in research, professional standards, and systematic feedback, not technology hype.

Ethical & Responsible Practice

Safeguarding, data protection, equity, and teacher professional judgement are embedded throughout our work.

Iterative Learning

Pilots are designed to be refined over time based on real-world evidence, feedback, and reflective evaluation.

Collaborative and transparent

Our delivery model uses existing school capacity and scalable approaches to ensure efficient use of time and resources.

Our Commitment

IAIE is committed to supporting the education sector to engage with generative AI carefully, ethically, and professionally, in line with public-sector values and DfE guidance.

What Sets Us Apart

  • Practical, not theoretical: We focus on what works in classrooms, not abstract predictions about technology.

  • Teacher autonomy first: AI supports — not replaces — professional judgement.

  • Ethics and safeguarding first: Real risks (bias, data usage, transparency) are openly addressed.

  • Evidence over hype: Impact is measured, documented, and shared responsibly.

A Collaborative Journey

IAIE does not work alone. We partner with schools, educators, trusts, researchers, and funders who share our commitment to thoughtful, responsible innovation in education. Together, we explore how and where AI can support learning without sacrificing equity, professionalism, or student wellbeing.
